Abstract:

This guide presents 196 species of trees in Hong Kong’s countryside.  Species described are common native trees of Hong Kong, besides a few species for afforestation. Each tree species is illustrated with some 1000 colour photographs taken in the field showing various parts including flowers, fruits, leaves, twigs, bark, etc., supplemented by concise descriptions with identification notes in Chinese as well as a photo key for assisting the differentiation of groups of tree species in the field.

Flora of Hong Kong (Chinese Version), which is co-edited by the South China Botanical Garden and the Hong Kong Herbarium, will be published in four volumes. This Chinese version is compiled based on the Flora of Hong Kong but making references to the latest botanical literature and specimens kept in the Hong Kong Herbarium.The Flora describes the seed plants (Gymnosperms and Angiosperms) occurring in Hong Kong systematically.Volume One covers 10 families in Gymnosperms and 76 families of Magnoliopsida (Dicotyledons) in Angiosperms.It will be followed by Volumes Two and Three for the remaining Magnoliopsida and Volume Four which deals with Liliopsida (Monocotyledons).
