In Hong Kong, inland leisure fish farms which are mainly engaged in aquaculture are concentrated in the vicinity of Pak Nai, Lau Fau Shan and Yuen Long, with a small number of them located on the outlying islands. They generally offer activities such as leisure fishing, guided tours of fish ponds, aquaculture experience etc. Some of the fish farmers, in collaboration with different organisations and units, also organise various public education activities in their fish ponds, such as Fishpond Festivals, seminars, workshops etc., to enable the public to have a better understanding of the ecology of fish ponds and the culture of the local fisheries industry.
With reference to the successful experience of the “Agri enJoy” Scheme, participating inland fish farms can provide leisure ancillary activities. AFCD will actively seize the opportunities in the Northern Metropolis to promote the development of leisure fisheries. By integrating these activities with eco-tourism and fisheries cultural experiences, we hope to create synergies and enhance the overall attractiveness.
