The government has conducted a review on the moratorium on the issue of new marine fish culture licences. The review has concluded that mariculture, if pursued with adequate good practices, is now considered an environmentally acceptable activity. Relevant information is set out in Legislative Council Paper No. CB(2)1284/12-13(05).
With a view to utilising surplus carrying capacity of fish culture zones (FCZs), and at the same time encouraging advances in technology and best practices in the industry, AFCD will issue new marine fish culture licences in three FCZs (i.e. O Pui Tong, Wong Wan and Sham Wan FCZs) through a pilot project. Any person who wishes to participate in the project can submit an application on or before 30 November 2014.
