Tourist Souvenirs

Specimens which were acquired outside the person's usual place of residence as tourist souvenirs might be exempt from licensing requirement when import, export or re-export such specimens, if the specimens fall within the category of personal or household effects, were legally acquired, and are :

• Appendix III species (other than live animals)
• Appendix II species (other than live animals and plants), but shall note that:
  • Some countries or regions have informed CITES Secretariat that they will not provide exemption to tourist souvenir items, such as Mainland China, European Union and Indonesia, etc.
  • Some species are subject to quantity limits

Import, export or re-export of souvenir items not meeting the above exemption criteria must fulfill the licensing requirements. For details, please refer to the two Exemption Orders of the Ordinance.
