Hong Kong Nature-based Solutions Design Guidelines

The Hong Kong Nature-based Solutions Design Guide (HKNbSDG), jointly published by the Civil Engineering and Development Department and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, provides practical guidance on the planning and design of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) into infrastructure works and development projects. It aims to balance city development with ecological conservation while improving Hong Kong’s climate resilience and urban sustainability. The HKNbSDG draws on global, national and local publications and incorporates Hong Kong’s ecological urban development characteristics, alongside actual local circumstances. The three main principles include: (1) promoting ecosystem diversity at multiple scales; (2) embracing human-nature coexistence for mutual benefits; and (3) improving resilience through Nature-based Solutions.
